John + Wanting | The Proposal
“Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.” – 1 Peter 4:10 When John first approached me to be part of his surprise proposal, there was never any doubt I would say yes.
John and I spent a majority of our youth together, when we were serving in the same cell group. We weren’t exactly very close, but we did manage to get by with our weekend football debates, and occasional private conversations. A man of few words, John would often pass off as a passive and soft-spoken man. However, unknown to many, John is blessed with a unique set of gifts– melodic vocals and a dedicated heart of service.
It was back in 2009, when John and I found ourselves in a similar position, as we were a couple of weeks back - sitting down in a nearby cafeteria and running through all the fine details of our plan. It was for my 21st Birthday party back then, when John was enthusiastically putting together a band to perform at my birthday party (coincidentally, Wanting was on keyboard). They spent days rehearsing and hours transporting all the logistics from their home to the party – without asking for anything in return. That evening, John taught me an important lesson - those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.
For that reason, I was there on 11 December 2013, sitting nervously by the water banks, cap on, gear raised, as John and Wanting strolled past me – oblivious to my presence, and to the sound of the shutter.
Oh and if you are wondering about the performance by John on both occasions. Both Wanting and I teared.
Congratulation John and Wanting! :)
